0:00Before you start
Hi, and welcome! This is Nightingale, the MSNR bot from FXfolder Bots. It's in beta. It trades Malaysian support and resistance on your own MetaTrader account, inside loss limits you set yourself. You'll need three things: an FXfolder membership, MetaTrader 5 or 4, and a trading account to run it on. One tip before we start: run it on a demo account first, and only let it trade real money once you've watched it closely.
0:30How Nightingale reads MSNR
First, a quick look at how Nightingale reads the chart. MSNR uses the closing line, not the wicks. A peak in that line is an A level, which acts as resistance. A valley is a V level, which acts as support. Each level stays fresh until price comes back to it. Nightingale trades that first return, and drops any level a candle body closes through. The storyline is an optional filter from a higher timeframe. When it breaks upward, Nightingale only buys at support. When it breaks downward, it only sells at resistance. And a Quasimodo is a reversal: a high, a low, a higher high, then a lower low. When price comes back to the left shoulder, Nightingale can sell there.
1:18Create the bot: your limits
Now let's set it up. Sign in, open the menu, choose My bots, then Set up Nightingale. Step one is your account. Everything is already filled in, so you only change what doesn't suit you. Name the bot, pick your terminal, and set your own limits. Here: 3% a day, and a 10% drawdown below your equity peak. There's no balance to type. The bot reads it from your terminal on its first report, and leaves deposits and withdrawals out. On MetaTrader 5, use a hedging account. Then choose Next.
1:54Choose a preset
Step two is the strategy. The first preset is already selected for you. It's called Gold 4-hour levels. It maps levels on gold's 4-hour chart, follows the daily storyline, and waits for a 15-minute candle to close back away from a fresh level. There's also a daily levels preset for EURUSD and GBPUSD, and a 1-hour Quasimodo preset for gold. Just so you know, presets are starting points. They're not tested for profit. On your own account, a preset runs as it is. Choose Review all settings to see every value, and change anything you like. Then choose Next.
2:35Review the risk guard
Step three is the risk guard. It's filled in too, so just review each value. Risk per trade is the share of your balance risked on each stop. Here, it's half a percent. New trades stop at 60% of your daily limit, and the bot closes its own trades at 85%. The same pair of levels guards your drawdown limit. Once new trades stop there, they stay stopped until you reset tracking. It only ever closes its own trades, never the ones you placed by hand. And every trade carries a stop, with your limits checked inside your terminal on every tick.
3:12Alerts, review and create
Step four is where the bot's trades get logged, and how it reaches you. Keep a new journal account, and tick push and email. You'll get an alert at 50, 75, and 90% of a limit, and whenever the bot stops or closes trades. Step five: check the summary, read and tick each statement, and accept the Nightingale terms. Now choose Create bot. Don't worry, it's created with trading switched off.
3:43Create your key and download
The install window opens. Choose Create my bot key. Your key is shown only once. But you won't need to paste it anywhere: the bot you download already has it filled in. Copy the API address. You'll add it in MetaTrader in a moment. Then download Nightingale.mq5.
4:04Allow FXfolder in MetaTrader
Now, over to MetaTrader 5. Open it, and log in to your demo account. Open Tools, then Options, and go to the Expert Advisors tab. Tick Allow algorithmic trading. Tick Allow WebRequest for listed URL, and add the API address you copied: https://api.fxfolder.com Choose OK. This step matters: without it, the bot can't fetch its settings, and the Experts log will tell you so.
4:34Put the file in place
Next, open File, then Open Data Folder. Open MQL5, then Experts, and move Nightingale.mq5 in there. On MetaTrader 4, it's exactly the same, just with the MQL4 folder and Nightingale.mq4.
4:54Compile in MetaEditor
Back in MetaTrader, press F4 to open MetaEditor. In its Navigator, open Experts, then Nightingale.mq5. Press F7 to compile. The Errors tab should finish with 0 errors. That creates Nightingale.ex5, which is the file MetaTrader actually runs.
5:16Attach it to one chart
In MetaTrader's Navigator, open Expert Advisors. If you don't see Nightingale there yet, right-click and choose Refresh. Open a gold chart. Nightingale trades the symbols in your settings, and draws the levels it's watching on the chart you attach it to. Drag Nightingale onto that chart. Just one FXfolder bot per account: a second one, even PropPilot, refuses to start. On the Common tab, tick Allow Algo Trading. On the Inputs tab, ApiKey and ApiUrl are already filled in, and ShowLevels is on. Leave them just as they are. Choose OK, and check that the Algo Trading button on the toolbar is switched on.
6:02Check the connection
And there it is! The chart's top-left corner shows Nightingale's status: connected, the license, and how much of each limit is used. On the chart itself are the levels it's watching. Blue lines are support, red lines are resistance, and a dotted line has already been touched. The Experts tab logs everything it does. To check its rule engine on your own terminal, set SelfTest to true once, and read the result there. Within a minute, your bot's page shows the account as connected, with its starting balance, and whether it's a demo or a real-money account.
6:39Turn trading on
Trading stays off until you switch it on. When you're ready, choose Turn trading on. On a real-money account, it asks you to confirm first. The tracker shows your daily loss and drawdown used, the change since tracking began, and your net deposits, updated every minute. If your membership ever lapses, Nightingale stops opening new trades, but keeps protecting the ones it already has. To stop it, choose Turn trading off here, or switch off Algo Trading in MetaTrader.
7:11Good to know
A few quick tips. Keep your terminal running: a VPS keeps the bot working while your computer is off. Deposits and withdrawals never count as a profit or a loss, so moving money in or out doesn't use up your limits. To change your limits, open Settings and choose Reset tracking. It starts again from your current balance. Automated trading carries risk, and no result is guaranteed. So start on demo, watch it closely, and take it one step at a time.
The rules
How Nightingale Reads MSNR
MSNR has no single official definition, so these are FXfolder's written rules, applied the same way on every closed candle. Every number in them (timeframes, swing strength, touch distance, gap size) is a setting you choose.
A and V levels, on the closing line
Nightingale reads the line chart, which joins the candle closes, so wicks never set a level. An A level is a peak of that line: a close higher than the closes before it and not topped by the closes after it. It is resistance. A V level is a valley, the mirror, and it is support. Swing strength sets how many closes on each side count: 1 takes every turn, a higher number keeps only the clearer ones.
Gap levels
Optional. When two candles close in the same direction and the second opens clear of the first one’s close by at least your smallest gap, the first candle’s close becomes a gap level: support after a gap up, resistance after a gap down.
Fresh, touched and broken
A level is fresh until a wick comes within your touch distance of it after it forms. From then on it is touched, and the fresh-only setting no longer trades it. A candle body that closes through a level breaks it, and a broken level is dropped. In this version it is not flipped to the other side.
The storyline
Optional. On a higher timeframe you choose, the storyline turns up after a close above the most recent A level and down after a close below the most recent V level. With the filter on, Nightingale only buys while it points up, only sells while it points down, and does nothing until it has a direction.
The Quasimodo
On the closing line, a sell Quasimodo is a high (H), a low (L), a higher high (the head), then a lower low that closes below L. The first high is the left shoulder, and Nightingale trades only the first return to it. The pattern is dropped if a close goes beyond the head first, or once it is older than your expiry, and one whose leg from the head to the final low is smaller than your setting is ignored. A buy Quasimodo is the mirror: a low, a high, a lower low, then a higher high.
Entering a trade
Nightingale trades the first return to a level: as price touches it, or after an entry-timeframe candle closes back away from it (a rejection), or after an engulfing candle. A close through the level cancels the setup. The stop goes beyond the level, beyond the furthest point price reached, beyond the head of a Quasimodo, or an ATR multiple from entry. The target is a multiple of the stop, the next level on the other side, or a Quasimodo’s final low or high.
The drawings are schematic illustrations of each rule, not real charts or real trades.
What it does
Trades The Levels, Guards Your Account
Start from a preset
Pick a preset with every setting filled in and review it, or build your own from the levels or Quasimodo template. On your own account a preset runs as is, and you can change anything.
Levels mapped by written rules
A, V and gap levels, the storyline and the Quasimodo are found from closed candles on the timeframes you choose, the same way every time.
Every trade has a stop
It trades the first touch of a fresh level, at once or after a rejection or engulfing candle. Each trade carries a stop and is sized from your risk % of your current balance.
Your limits, every tick
You set a daily loss % of the day’s starting balance and a maximum drawdown % below your equity peak or your starting balance. Nightingale stops new trades and closes its own before either. Deposits and withdrawals are not counted as profit or loss.
Leaves your own trades alone
It only manages the trades it opened. Trades you place by hand are never closed or changed by Nightingale.
A tracker for your account
Daily loss used, drawdown used, live equity and every action the bot took, on one page. Your starting balance is read from the account when the bot first reports, so there is nothing to type.
Alerts before a limit
Push, Telegram or email as you approach a limit, and whenever Nightingale stops or closes trades. The terminal alerts you too, even offline.
Safe by default
Created with trading off. One FXfolder bot per MetaTrader account. If your membership ends it opens nothing new, and keeps protecting the trades it holds.
Presets
Start From A Preset
Presets are starting points written by FXfolder to show how each template works. They are not tested for profit and no result is implied. Review every value before you trade.
Gold 4-hour levels, 15-minute rejection
Maps A, V and gap levels on gold’s 4-hour chart, follows the daily storyline, and waits for a 15-minute bar to close back away from a fresh level. Target: the next level, if it is at least 1.5R away.
MSNR levels · XAUUSD
EUR and GBP daily levels, 1-hour engulfing
Fresh A and V levels on the daily chart of EURUSD and GBPUSD, in the direction of the daily storyline, entered on a 1-hour engulfing bar. 2R target, ATR trailing stop, held over weekends.
MSNR levels · EURUSD, GBPUSD
Gold 1-hour Quasimodo
Finds a Quasimodo on gold’s 1-hour closing line with a leg of at least 100 pips, enters as price touches the left shoulder, stops beyond the head and targets the pattern’s final low or high.

Honest limits
What Nightingale Cannot Do
- It does not decide whether a strategy is any good, and nothing about it guarantees a profit. The presets are starting points, not tested for profit.
- MSNR has no single official definition. These are FXfolder’s written rules, and they may differ from how you or another trader reads a chart.
- It only works while your terminal is running and connected.
- Prices can gap past a level or a stop, and orders can fill with slippage, so a loss can go beyond your limits, especially around news and over weekends.
- It does not run on MetaTrader 5 netting accounts. On MetaTrader 5 it needs a hedging account.
- One FXfolder bot per MetaTrader account. A second copy refuses to start.
- It is in beta and has not yet been verified widely on live terminals. Expect rough edges, and run it on a demo account first.
FAQ
Nightingale Questions
What is MSNR?
MSNR stands for Malaysian support and resistance, a way of reading levels from the line chart (the candle closes) rather than from wicks: A levels at the peaks, V levels at the valleys, gap levels, and patterns such as the Quasimodo. It has no single official definition, so Nightingale follows FXfolder’s written rules, set out on this page.
Can I run Nightingale on a real-money account?
Yes. Real-money accounts are allowed during the beta, but run it on a demo account first; you confirm you will before you can create a bot. On a real account it trades your own money, and a fast market or a price gap can lose more than your limits.
Will it close trades I placed myself?
No. Nightingale only manages the trades it opened. When a limit is reached it stops opening new trades and closes its own, and leaves your manual trades as they are. Your own trades still move the account’s equity, which is what the limits are measured on.
Do deposits and withdrawals count against my limits?
No. Nightingale tracks deposits and withdrawals separately, so a deposit is not read as a profit and a withdrawal is not read as a loss. Your starting balance is captured automatically from the bot’s first report, so there is nothing to type.
What does it cost?
Nightingale is included with every FXfolder membership, from $49 a month. There is nothing extra to buy.
How is it different from PropPilot?
PropPilot is for prop firm challenge and funded accounts: it enforces a firm’s published rules and trades breakout and pullback templates. Nightingale is for your own account: it trades MSNR levels and the Quasimodo, and enforces limits you set yourself. Each MetaTrader account runs one FXfolder bot.
What happens if my membership ends?
Nightingale stops opening new trades and keeps protecting the trades it already holds, with your last settings. Renew and it carries on.
Which platforms does it run on?
MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5, on hedging accounts. It does not run on MetaTrader 5 netting accounts, cTrader or Match-Trader.
